From April 11 to 13, 2025, Oradea STEAM Park hosted the inaugural edition of HackatUSO, the largest student hackathon in Western Romania. Organized by the Union of Students from Oradea (USO) in collaboration with Oradea STEAM Park, Transilvania IT Cluster, FAN Courier Foundation, QubHQ, and Make IT in Oradea, the 72-hour event brought together approximately 40 students and developers from Oradea and the surrounding region to develop innovative technological solutions to real-world challenges.
QubMenu, a digital platform specializing in hospitality solutions, participated as a challenge partner, presenting the "Split The Bill" problem to the hackathon teams. This challenge aimed to address a common issue in the hospitality industry: simplifying the process of dividing a bill among multiple patrons in a group setting.
Throughout the event, participating teams brainstormed and developed creative solutions to the "Split The Bill" challenge, focusing on user-friendly interfaces, seamless integration with existing payment systems, and enhancing the overall dining experience for both customers and service providers.
HackatUSO 2025 not only provided a platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity but also fostered collaboration between academia and industry. By engaging with real-world problems presented by companies like QubMenu, participants gained valuable insights into the practical applications of their work and the potential impact of their solutions on the hospitality sector.
The success of the "Split The Bill" challenge at HackatUSO 2025 highlights the importance of such events in driving innovation and addressing industry-specific challenges through collaborative efforts between students, educators, and industry professionals.
